Stress is a normal physical and psychological reaction to our demands of life. Stress may motivate us to work well. However, many challenges such as meeting deadlines, getting stuck in traffic, and paying bills, are stress triggers.
However, once the stress is over, our body returns to normal. Unfortunately, the unstoppable complications of life and our increasing demands and expectations are some of the causes that aggravate stress.
Therefore, we need to undergo stress management, where we have many tools to reset our system. Helps our minds and bodies to adapt to their surroundings. Over time, if we leave stress untreated, it becomes chronic stress and leads to severe health problems.
What Is Stress?
Stress is our body’s reaction to changes in our lives. Changes include everyday routine to commuting to home or work to significant changes such as marriage, divorce, or starting a new job, all these changes lead to stress. We will focus on identifying ways that can reduce stress and help us cope to go through our day.
What are the approaches to stress management?
There are four primary stress management approaches. They are as follows:
· Learning skills such as time management, problem-solving, and prioritizing tasks.
· Enhancing our ability to cope with difficulty. For example, we may learn ways to improve our emotional reactions, cultivate gratitude and optimism, increase our sense of control, and find greater meaning and purpose.
· Practicing relaxation techniques such as stretching, deep breathing, walking, exercise, and listening to music.
· Improving our relationships.
What are the Symptoms of Stress Management?
Multiple ways determine stress. Here we discuss the significant symptoms that identify stress and highlight the primary stress triggers.
· Disturbed sleep/ less sleep
· Regular headaches
· Excessive weight loss or gain
· Constant irritability and anger
· Losing interest in activities
· Obsessive thinking or continuous worrying
· Inability to concentrate
How to cope with stress?
Build-in Regular Exercise
Exercising help reduce stress. It promotes blood circulation and flushes stress hormones. Even exercising for 20-minutes can positively affect our well-being.
Eat Well and Limit Stimulants
Alcohol, caffeine, and nicotine relieve stress but negatively affect our health. Well-nourished bodies help fight stress and improve our mental well-being. Furthermore, we can cope with stress with a healthy diet with a low sugar intake.
The Bottom Line
Stress is the highest contributor to all human diseases and illnesses. It raises the risks of heart diseases and stroke by 40% and 50%. Our busy schedules and daily demands contribute to our stress levels. Practicing some of the stress management methods mentioned can improve our capacity to handle our stress.
